Homebodii loves celebrating and empowering all women, especially the women that helped to make you... you!

Mothers are so special, they're our heroes and our best friends. Growing up they were our own personal doctors, chefs, educators, taxi drivers, and so much more!

In honour of all the amazing mothers in the world, homebodii has created a list of 5 very inspirational mothers to celebrate Mother's Day.

Angelina Jolie is well known for both her career as an actress, a humanitarian and a mother. Jolie is the mother to six children, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox whom are all her biological children and her adopted children Maddox, Pax and Zahara adopted from orphanages in Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam, respectively.

Brad Pitt told The Wall Street Journal that when she has a day off, “the first thing she does is get up and take the kids out. This is the most important ‘to do’ of the day. No matter how tired she might be, she plans outings for each and all.”

Lou Xiaoying

Lou Xiaoying, is a mother to one biological daughter and 30 rescued children. When collecting trash to recycle and sell Xiaoying noticed a little girl left amongst the junk on the streets of China. She took the baby in and cared for her as if she were her own. Over many years, Xiaoying rescued and raised another 29 children she found left with the trash.

She reflected on her choices to raise so many children, saying she “had a real love of caring for children… and these children need love and care. They are all precious human lives."

J.K Rowling proves that you can achieve your goals if you really believe in them and work hard!

Rowling wrote the first four Harry Potter books as a single mother with financial problems. She went on to harness her success and wealth for the greater good, becoming president of Gingerbread, a group that works with single parents and their children to help find resources and programs to help them thrive.

Rowling continued to found an international non-governmental non-profit organisation to help the eight million disadvantaged children in orphanages around the world to be returned to their family or placed in a loving family environment.

“I am prouder of my years as a single mother than of any other part of my life,” - J.K Rowling.

Waris Dirie, a victim of of female genital mutilation at 5 years old and arranged marriage at 13 ran away to London where she later became a successful model. After retiring from modelling, Dirie dedicated her time to speaking up about female genital mutilation and became a UN Special Ambassador. She strived to do everything she could to combat the monstrosity that was being inflicted on so many women, so she created the organisation Desert Flower. A foundation the hopes to end genital mutilation.

Being the mother of four children, she told Harper’s Bazaar that female genital mutilation isn’t just a women’s concern: “Every education begins with Mama. We have to rethink what we teach our sons. That's the most important thing."

Julie Andrews

Julie Andrews was like a mother to so many of us on screen in movies such as Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and even Princess Diaries. Being, however, a wildly famous actress never stopped Julie Andrews from fulfilling her role as a mother to her three children. Her daughter, Emma reflects on what it was like to have Andrews as a mother; she was firm, protective, and despite her busy schedule, “very hands-on, always there making eggs at 5 o’ clock in the morning before we went to school.” Andrews is now also a co-author with daughter Emma Hamilton, and together they've created The Very Fairy Princess children’s book series.

Homebodii wishes you and your mother a very happy and lovely Mother's Day.
